Structure of Hung Windows

1. Fixed Frame and Sashes

The aluminum structure includes a fixed frame and one or more movable sashes (panels).

1.1 Fixed Frame

The frame is constructed from robust aluminum alloy profiles and serves as the main supporting structure for the entire window.

  • Main Functions: Provides overall strength, enables secure installation, and supports window operation.
  • Guide Channels: Vertical tracks are integrated on both sides of the frame (guide channels), allowing the sashes to move smoothly up and down.

1.2 Sash

The sash is the moveable or fixed panel that holds the glass, and is available in two types:

  • Upper Sash: The top panel, which is fixed in single hung windows and operable in double hung windows.
  • Lower Sash: The bottom panel, which is typically operable in all configurations.
  • Design: The sash is usually a hollow (chambered) aluminum structure, accommodating either single or insulated glass and sealing gaskets for improved performance.

1.3 Balance System

The balance system is essential to counteract the weight of the sash, enabling effortless and precise vertical movement.

  • Types: Includes spiral balance, spring balance, or block & tackle balance mechanisms.
  • Integration: These components are concealed within slots on both sides of the window frame, contributing to a clean and streamlined appearance.

1.4 Flyscreen (Optional)

A flyscreen can be fitted to either the interior or exterior of the frame.

1.5 Aluminum Material:

  • Typically made of 6063-T5, 6060-T5, 6061-T6 aluminum profiles, providing excellent strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability.

1.6 Surface Treatment:

  • The aluminum surface can be customized with different finishes based on requirements, including:
    • Anodizing for enhanced corrosion resistance and aesthetic appeal.
    • Electrophoresis for a smooth and durable coated finish.
    • Powder Coating for a wide range of color options and weather resistance.

  • Insulated Glass (IGU): Two panes of glass separated by a spacer for improved thermal insulation. Common thickness: 5mm+12A+5mm, 6mm+12A+6mm, or variations with larger spacers for better insulation.
  • Triple Glass (Laminated + Insulated): Offers superior thermal and sound insulation by combining laminated glass with insulated glass. Common configuration: 5mm+9A+5mm+9A+5mm.
  • Low-E Coated Glass: Glass with a Low-E coating to optimize energy efficiency by reducing heat transfer while maintaining natural light. Can be combined with insulated configurations like 5mm+16A+5mm (Low-E).
